In 1872 lands once thought uninhabitable are coveted by the white settlers, traders and miners headed West. In far Northern California the last few bands of Modoc cling to their ancestral lands, trying to live in peace with their new neighbors. Farmers now plow the ground where the Modoc ancestors lived. The U.S. Government decides it is time to move the surviving bands to a reservation. The Land of Burned out Fires filled with hot springs, volcanic tuffs, inhospitable forest, and incredible beauty, is soon to be lost to the Modoc--forever! They are brave men and women who will fight to the last soul for the lands they have always called home.
